Background

The MiLL, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, opened in 2017 as a training center for wood products manufacturing. This highly successful model is engineered to solve the industry’s biggest challenge - the skilled workforce shortage. The curriculum developed for the MiLL has proven its value by the high placement of graduates into industry.

The MiLL is a groundbreaking, three-way partnership between public education, industry suppliers, and woodworking operations. Owned and operated by Widefield School District No. 3 (WSD3), the program’s materials and supplies are provided by industry partners, at no cost to the school district or the students.

The instructors use a project-based curriculum that ensures the high school students are learning skills and concepts that can be directly applied to modern wood manufacturing companies. Upon completion of the coursework and training, students will have the skills and industry-recognized credentials needed to obtain internships or employment.
