National Woods Board: SHaping the future of woodworking

The situation

What we can do for you

What we can do for you

  • The woodworking industry faces a critical shortage of skilled labor.
  • The MiLL (Manufacturing Industry Learning Lab) in Colorado Springs became the proof of concept—an industry-led answer to the call for scalable, effective training that connects education to real jobs.
  • The National Woods Board (NWB), in partnership with the Woodwork Career Alliance of North America (WCA) , has built an educational program that integrates:
    • Industry collaboration and investment
    • A comprehensive, classroom-ready curriculum
    • Embedded WCA credentialing for real-world skill validation
  • This program aligns education with industry demands—preparing students in construction methods, safety, machinery, and software.
  • Piloted in 6 schools in 2024, we're now scaling nationally—creating a pipeline of credentialed talent and a centralized Career Hub for job placement.

"Finding employees is easy... with the right source"

"The MiLL National Training Center here in Colorado has provided us with several work-ready trained employees. Each has been an immediate contributor to our firm's success. I want to see other regions have access to a trained workforce. That's why we established the National Woods Board."

 - Scott Robinson, President of Concepts in Millwork (Colorado Springs, CO)
